what is shiatsu and what is a treatment?Shiatsu massage is an ancient Japanese form of bodywork and is a deeply relaxing experience,
stimulating the bodies natural healing ability. It is a system based on pathways (meridians) of energy (ki) as used by acupuncturists but it is used differently in Shiatsu. Jane's focus in working with clients is to help you to come to an understanding of how you are functioning, explore ideas of what is currently happening for you and how change can be achieved. Over a series of treatments Jane will help you to explore where there are blocks and how to achieve and maintain balance. In a first treatment and over subsequent treatments Jane may ask you questions about your present condition, the history leading up to this, your past medical history and your general well being. Jane will be making an assessment by listening carefully to you and observing your posture, voice and how you are feeling and helping you to unravel the story behind where you are now. The treatment may involve stretches and passive movements, the easing of tight muscles, holding techniques using hands and fingers and deeper relaxing work. Jane will be constantly checking how you are feeling and helping you to relax and explore new ways of being. After a treatment it is advisable to take things easy for the rest of the day and not over exert your self. Drink plenty of water to help the body flush out any toxins and keep your energy levels up. Be gentle on yourself as a treatment can create change in your body for a few days and some times up to a week and you need to allow yourself to adjust to how these changes will make you feel. |
"It is greatly reassuring to find a combination of professional medical expertise (in Jane's case nursing) alongside a thorough and experienced approach to complementary therapy. Jane has both of these and succeeds in using both to inform her practise. She is careful to listen to all that her clients bring to the session and works with them to address their needs in a holistic way. Friends recommended her and I was delighted at last to find someone I could really trust to support me in changing long standing habits that were not helpful to me and to develop a way forward, which means I am pain free after months of discomfort. This was a life changing experience that I shall return to in order to support a comfortable and active retirement!"
